Things To Buy On Sale In May
May is here, and between Mother’s Day, graduations and the unofficial start of summer, you might be busy buying gifts and seasonal items this month. As with each month, May often offers special deals and bargains when it comes to shopping. Here are some things to keep in mind as you plan your purchases for the month of May:
- Kitchen Items
As wedding season ramps up, new cookware lines start coming out, and retailers will try to move their older items out. Take advantage of this and stock up on whatever pots, pans and other cookware items that you need this month. Another good buy this time of year is on refrigerators, for largely the same reason: the new models are coming in, and it’s time for stores to get rid of the old ones. If your fridge is on the fritz, or if you simply anticipate needing a larger one or one for the basement for storage, now’s the time to check out your local appliance stores. - Party Supplies
Do you have a Memorial Day or Fourth of July barbecue planned? How about a bridal shower? May is a great month for stocking up on party supplies of all sorts. Decorations, tablecloths, disposable tableware… its’ all on sale this month. Even if you don’t have anything planned, it might make sense to stock up; last-minute summertime entertaining will become that much more simple! - Mattresses
Particularly through the Memorial Day weekend, home stores will be deeply discounting mattresses. If you or your kids aren’t getting the best sleep possible, look into replacing your mattresses in May. This can also be a boon if you have a new graduate in your family, who might be moving into a new house or apartment. - Seasonal Foods
It’s time to start grilling, so although grills won’t be on sale for another couple of months (after the 4th of July), you can start stocking up on soda, condiments, chips and other warm-weather foods. Spring and early summer produce is also going to be on sale: fill up on spinach, peas, strawberries, apricots and my favorite summertime fruit, cherries. - Things Moms Like
Although items like jewelry, flowers and other mom-friendly treats will go on sale before Mother’s Day, they may be even more deeply discounted after the holiday, when retailers want to clear out what’s leftover. Some products will be marked up, however, so do some pricing research if you’re planning on buying an expensive piece of jewelry this month.
Happy shopping (and saving)!
