New Magazine Subscriptions for the New Year
Do you read magazines? How about your kids? When I was a child, one of my Christmas presents from my grandparents every year was a new year’s subscription to whatever magazines that I was reading at the time. This tradition has been continued with my children, as their grandparents pick out magazines for them each year. Magazines are a great way to get kids reading about something that interests them. Magazines are great for adults too; they’re a good way to keep up on topics that interest you without having to spend a lot of time searching for the information that you want. If you’re looking for a new magazine subscription to start the new year with, here are some titles to consider.
- For Kids If your kids are interested in animals and nature, two titles that you should consider are Your Big Backyard and Ranger Rick. Your Big Backyard is geared towards preschoolers and is filled with simple stories, seasonal crafts and activities, games, and even recipes. The engaging content will keep them interested and help foster their burgeoning reading skills. Ranger Rick is similar, but geared toward school age children. This magazine, which received the Parent’s Choice Gold Award in 1999, is filled with fascinating facts, some truly amazing photographs, activities, and stories of outdoor adventures. The content in this magazine will help strengthen reading skills and can come in very handy for school projects. Also handy for school research and science project ideas is National Geographic Kids magazine. Geared for children aged six and above, National Geographic Kids appeals to children who are fascinated by technology and science. They also include trading cards, puzzles, and posters. Boys in the 8-12 year old age range might enjoy Boys’ Life magazine, the official magazine of the Boy Scouts of America. There is also a Girls’ Life magazine, that may appeal to girls in the same age range who are interested in fashion and celebrity news.
- For Mom Why should the kids have all the fun? While you’re ordering magazines, pick out a subscription or two for yourself. Parent and Child magazine is a great resource for articles about child development and what to expect as your kids go through the various stages of growing up. Need some inspiration when it comes to finding fun and family friendly crafts, activities, and projects? Check out FamilyFun, which is full of creative ideas for parties, traveling, and everyday life. If you’re looking for a publication that will bring you information about health, good nutrition, environmental and social concerns, and education, sign up for Kiwi Magazine, a magazine geared towards helping parents find the information that allows them to make the best and healthiest choices for their family.
It never hurts to have an extra something interesting around to read. Magazine subscriptions generally cost little, and good ones deliver a lot of valuable information or entertainment for your dollar. Consider starting off your year with a few new and interesting subscriptions for your family.
I love getting free magazines every year! I have gotten quite a few magazines last year for free, and I am going to get these free magazines today! Thanks for posting this information!
I love giving magazine subscriptions as gifts! I typically buy one issue and tuck the subscription info that they are getting it. Perhaps as part of a gift basket or just the subscription. I get a couple magazines, but I read many at the library, a real pain, but better than none. Unlike newspapers, many magazines are doing quite well.
I am a magazine addict! I currently have five subscriptions, ranging from Us Weekly to Glamour, sure not news quality mags but informative in their own right 😉 It’s just a matter of actually finding the time to read them that’s the problem! My son is now getting into model train magazines so he may be getting his very first mag subscription soon 😉
Me, I love reading magazines. It gives me fresh ideas (for my blogs) and at the same time, keeping me informed (some info are not readily available online) at some stuffs.

Great post – I love reading magazines!
I absolutely love the free magazine subscriptions like ‘working mother’ and ‘shape’!!! I didn’t ever think children read magazines except for those National Geographic Kids ones, so it’s awesome that your family did it for you and you’re doing it for your family! I think I may have to try that with my son when he turns 4 or 5!
I just joined your blog and it looks like it is really nice.
One year my hubby got me a subscirption to Cosmo. It was a stocking stuffer. I loved it. Ever since then I have told him that is what I want but he hasn’t done it again. 🙁
