Cell Phones cause Cancer?
The headlines are now all over the news the World Health Organization has found that Radiation from cell phones may cause cancer. Cell phones are now on a list with, engine exhaust, chloroform, lead as a “carcinogenic hazard”. WHO had a team of 31 scientists researching the safety of cell phones. This team found that there was enough evidence to note that cell phones are possibly carcinogenic to humans. In this study, they found that acoustic neuroma brain cancer and glioma increased in those people that used cell phones. Cell Phones release non-ionizing radiation similar to that of a microwave. This radiation build up can cause cancer over time.
Of course, after today’s announcement the wireless industry came back with a response that WHO did not actually do any new research but they instead reported on already published studies so they say that this does not mean that cell phones cause cancer. The European Environmental Agency has called for more studies to be done. While reading up on this new announcement I read how in the owners manual of such phones as the Iphone say that “When using iPhone near your body for voice calls or for wireless data transmission over a cellular network, keep iPhone at least 15 millimeters (5/8 inch) away from the body.” WHAT? Really – i guess that will teach me to read the manual. There is a solution do not put the cell phone to your ear instead use a blue tooth headset or ear piece and keep the cell phone away from your body. What will you do to protect yourself and your family? This is also a good time to see what other gadgets could be exposing your kids to radiation.Radiation from Ipad and Kindle? and Radiation Concerns and Sushi
If something is of great utility (usage, etc), it will surely have its own problems as well; cell phones are no exception. Asking a person never to use his cell phone will seem ridiculous in today’s world in spite the common buzz of the various cancers that might arise due to excessive usage of the mobile phones. With the cell phones penetration into every corner in life where this kind of connectivity was not even thought off during the wired days, the mobile phone is a part and parcel of life that is equivalent to your personal vehicle. The cell phones are a handy device in case of emergency that’s inevitable in the present scenario. However, I think, if using a Bluetooth or a earpiece that moves away the user’s head from the antenna can reduce the RF(Radio Frequency) electromagnetic waves, then it’s worth a practice to keep ourselves at bay from the carcinogenic effect.
I think this is kind of issue is nonsense. The WHO is mistaken. Cell phones do not produce enough radioactive energy to do any damage. And as far as I know, no study has ever shown any negative impact from cell phone use. If there were any danger of cancer, we’d have seen a huge spike in such cancers given the increased cell phone usage over the last two decades. There has been none. I can’t explain the WHO announcement, but will wait for more know legible people to comment. Right now, I think its garbage.
