Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides 2011
The Environmental Working Group have just updated their Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides. This is a great guide to keep with you as you go food shopping. Can you happen to guess what produce item has the most pesticide residues when grown conventionally? When tested 98% of all apples has pesticide in them even though they had been washed. Second on the lists was celery which tested positive for 57 different pesticides. And, third on the list where strawberries which had as many as 13 different pesticides. Note to self : it seems like if you peel the food it seems like those foods have lower levels of pesticides than fruit you don’t peel. We did not mention the top three foods that were lowest in pesticides. Onions, sweet Corn and Pineapple all ranked at the top for lowest pesticide produce!
