Lion King 3D Family Movie Night
Make it a Disney Family Movie night or a Date Night…..”The Lion King”….is now in 3D!!!
Simba, Nala, Scar and others are back in the 1994 Disney Oscar winning film. This time its big screen release is now in 3-D. CNN reports that the first weekend box office totals were $29.3 million. This just proves the power of 3-D. This is no surprise as stated from CNN. The movies first release in 1994 earned a total of $312.9 million; making it the highest animated film in box office history at that time. The IMAX re-release in 2002 earned another $15.7million. This is not too shabby for two decades worth of popularity. Disney hopes for continued success with its October 4th release on Blu-ray.
Who went to see “The Lion King?” According to CNN….People under the age of 25 made up 59 percent of the audience, as families (who made up 74 percent of the audience) took their kids to see the film. Still, many couples and young people without children saw the film simply for nostalgic reasons. Women slightly edged out men in rewatching the popular musical — females made up 56 percent of the crowd.
The first release of this film was during my junior year of high school. I remember going to watch it with a group of friends. Of course, we girls cried when Mufasa died. Then dried our tears as we began bolting out the lyrics to “Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata.”
Now here we are in 2011, all mothers now and wanting to take our little ones to watch “The Lion
King” in 3-D. Talk about a real life “circle of life.” No matter how old I am the song “Hakuna Matata” can always make me smile!
I’m thrilled to see this movie back in theaters. It has a very deep message about life, guilt and love. “The Lion King” presents the story of a lion cub’s journey to adulthood and acceptance of royal destiny.
